A blessing and a curse

It often occurs

That the definition of life

Can never be woven in a tapestry of words

Because words always betray

The deepest of emotions

The deepest of fears

The deepest of the shame

That you've kept hidden

For years

From the world

From the eyes and ears of the ones who truly matter

But it also often occurs

That the true meaning of life

Can also be counted on fingers

If only one could be brave

And objective

And patient

And see through the numbness that the cacophony and madness

That adulthood, with all its responsibilities,

Makes of life.

To see that every man is given both a blessing and a curse

That truly defines him

And the two are interwoven so tightly together

That the act of pulling them apart

Can sometimes take not just a lifetime

But also life.
